TAPE HAIR EXTENSIONS

Tape in 'skin weft' hair extensions are one of the newest hair extensions methods on the market in the UK.  They are extremely popular in the US but for some reason over here in the UK we seem to be a bit fearful of them.

So, I'm here to explain exactly what they are and share my personal experience of them with you.

To give you a brief background I have personally tried almost every method of extensions available, including bonded extensions, micro rings, nano rings, L.A weave, micro weave, braided weave, temporary glue, clip in's and flip in's. Some of which I loved and some of which I absolutely hated.

When I first heard of tape in hair extensions I was slightly dubious as I despise any method that involves glue but as it was soon to be a service I offer to my clients I knew I needed to try them myself.

The tape in hair I use comes from a number of different companies, unfortunately, here in the UK we have very limited choice of tape hair supplier. 

The strips of hair I use are two inches wide and have one sticky tape side while the other side is smooth.

They are applied in rows to the natural hair. A thin two inch section of your natural hair is parted off and sandwiched inbetween two pieces of tape in hair. This process is continued until all the extensions have been applied.

 As you can see the extensions lay totally flat to the scalp and believe it or not are incredibly secure (if applied correctly).

Tape in hair is perfect for all hair types but totally revolutionary for fine/thin hair types due to the fact they are so discreet and apply very little stress to the natural hair.

Tape in hair needs removing and replacing (if the hair is in a good enough condition) after 8-12  weeks. This is to ensure the natural hair is kept as healthy as possible.

Washing your hair while you are wearing tape in hair is easy but you have to be careful not to rub the hair or apply any conditioner to the roots.

When I first washed mine I was so certain they were all going to come out as I just couldn't understand how the tape could withstand water and shampoo but, to my surprise they didn't move an inch and were all just as perfect as they were before I washed them.

I do notice that mine can become a bit tacky after they have been washed but this is nothing to worry about. I normally press my tape down with my fingers after every wash, just to ensure they are secure.

You can wear your hair up relatively easily whilst wearing them too. I find it easier to wear a medium to low ponytail if your in a rush as it can take some practice to put your hair in a high pony.

I have had my current tape in's in for 4 weeks and they are so comfortable I don't even know they are in. I am totally in love with tape in hair.
